The Reading Corner

One of my fondest memories of grade one was leaving the classroom with a small group to do fun activities.  During a conversation with my mom while I was in university my mom told me that I had had difficulties learning to read.  It was at this time that I realized that the fun activities done in small group was a learning support class.  This was a bit of a surprise to me as I am an avid reader and have been as far back as I can recall.  Many of my Saturdays and holidays were filled with adventures through reading books.  Due to my love of reading the very first area in my classroom I decided to set up was my reading corner.  I will do whatever I can to instill a love of reading in my students.

When I was shopping I came across some brightly coloured little lawn chairs that were on sale at Wal-Mart.  At first I was simply drawn to the colours and the sale sign but as I was looking at them I had what I hope will prove to be a brilliant idea.  I could use these chairs in my reading corner.  When the chairs were not needed or when we needed more space for special activities these chairs could easily be stacked and put out of the way.  Here is a picture of my reading corner so far.  I have included a picture with my chairs out and one with them hanging on the hook behind my reading chair.

If anyone has any suggestions on ways that I can spruce up my reading corner further and/or encourage my students as readers please let me know.
